We are one week into the Tommy Europe 10-Pound Shred Challenge… and yes, we are in a bit of pain. But no pain, no gain right? With Tommy’s plan there are new activities, stretches, exercises, meals, etc. to try every day so we’ve definitely been busy!
To top it all off, Tommy Europe was in Toronto on the weekend for a 10-Pound Shred Boot Camp, and some of our brave staffers participated. Not only was it a grueling workout, but it was OUTSIDE. Does anyone remember Sunday? The day when it snowed, hailed and was just generally awful? Yup, they worked out right through whatever Mother Nature (and Tommy) was willing to throw at them! Now THAT’s commitment.
Here are a few updates from our 10-Pound Shred Challenge participants: (Missed meeting the teams? Click here)
Meghan: Week 1 was a success! Not only did I work out four times last week, but two of those workouts were non-spinning related (partially because I showed up too late for one spinning class and didn’t get a bike). The real challenge this week was taking part in Tommy’s Toronto Boot Camp. I’ve been to his Boot Camp before, so I thought I was ready. But what I wasn’t ready for was an impromptu snowstorm hitting about 45 minutes into our outdoor work out. I’m proud to say the HarperCollins crew toughed it out until the bitter end, doing side planks and snow angels while others ran for cover.
Laura: Started off strong! I sweat through every work out, stuck to the meal plan (with a few adjustments since I don’t eat much meat) and even tried yoga on my active rest day. Bring on week 2!
Carolyn: Tommy Europe doesn’t have those giant muscles for nothing! The first week has been a bit of a shock to my lazy system, but I like the familiarity of his exercises: Burpees, skip rope, mastering the plank and lots of stretching is just the sort of jump-start this Shake Weight member needed.
Jennifer: It was a slow start for this team member, but it felt so good just to get moving! As expected, Tommy is kicking my butt to the curb and around the block. Thank you Tommy!
Brad: Well I’m over one week in now and so far, so painfully good. . After each workout I felt more thoroughly exhausted and physically spent than after any amount of trips to the gym have produced. These workouts give you that amazing, full body feeling where you know you’ve just given your body the best kind of pain. Everyday I’m getting more confident and less sore. I’m excited to see what the new week brings!
Jason: This past week was pretty tough, and by tough I mean walking around was hard because I was so sore. But the physical pain soon wore off and was replaced by a sense of accomplishment and self-betterment. Plus I had visions of Tommy screaming at me and calling me a wuss. That’s enough to bring some discipline to anyone.
Michael: A solid week 1, I think. Due to an injury, I am not following the Shred plan exactly. I’m using it as motivation to work out (a lot of running right now) and to eat healthy. So far, so good.
Kate: A non-starter. Life intervened, so I’m hoping to get rolling next week. I’ve been focusing on running and healthy eating, but am looking forward to some intensive strength training.
Jessica: I’d give it a solid 8. I kind of flaked on a cardio day because I could barely move, but went for a long walk on a beautiful day instead. And I look at this pain as the best possible pain – it’s pain that’s doing something! I’m not following the meal plan either, but I am making an effort to eat really well and drink my giant jug of water an
d then some.
