The 50 Book Pledge is off to a strong start!

Wow. I am just floored by the amount of love the 50 Book Pledge has gotten. Many of you have made it your New Year’s Resolution to read more and are using the 50 Book Pledge to make a firm commitment. Already our twitter has been flooded with awesome book recommendations and reviews from pledgers. (Keep ’em coming, tag with #50BookPledge!)

Here are some quick updates and reflections from me on the 50 Book Pledge so far:

1. It’s amazing to see how many people are using the twibbon too! There are over 500 people showing their support for the #50BookPledge with a twibbon. So. Awesome.

If you don’t have it yet, click here.

2. Don’t forget to keep tweeting your progress with the #50BookPledge hashtag. I have also attempted to make a twitter list of people taking the #50BookPledge. Check it out here. Chances are I’ve missed a few people, so if you’re not on the list let me know @SavvyReader.

3. We now have a 50 Book Pledge group on Goodreads! (We’re everywhere!) If you are on Goodreads make sure you join. Here’s the link.

4. This week we also held our very first 50 Book Pledge giveaway. We randomly awarded 5 50 Book Pledgers with an advanced reading copy of All That I Am by Anna Funder. All That I Am is our first official 50 Book Pledge Pick of 2012 and a book we are very excited to share with you.

5. Speaking of giveaways, we are planning on holding many, many more. Right now, on my desk, I have FIVE advanced reading copies of books coming this spring from HarperCollins Canada. I don’t want them just sitting on my desk, I want to give them to you! Stay tuned….

6. The group read! A lot of you have mentioned that you would be interested in taking part in a group read for the 50 Book Pledge. I love that idea, but now we need to find the perfect book. If you have a suggestion let us know.

7. Finally, the number. 50. I know people have been commenting that the number 50 is too high, or that it makes reading stressful when you have a goal. The number 50 is not what’s important here. The important thing is that you guys are taking the time to read! One user tweeted that rather than watching a new TV show they are spending that time reading. Another is taking the pledge with his daughter, and discussing the books they read. This is why we do the pledge — to encourage you guys to dedicate more time to reading, and to encourage a love of books in others.

It also gives us a great way to chat about books with you! So keep chatting! Leave comments here, on Facebook, via twitter #50BookPledge… We want to hear about what you’re reading.

That’s it from me.The 2012 50 Book Pledge is just getting started, and already I can tell that it is going to be a great year!
