The 50 Book Pledge: October Update

Hey 50 Book Pledge-rs,

Only 3 more months to go! It’s official, we are 75% of the way through the 50 Book Pledge and I see daily updates from people that have already reached 50. Should we set different goals next year?

By my calculations you should be around Book 38-40. I’m on Book 41 and feeling pretty great about my progress. In September I read two really fantastic books that I can’t wait to share with you.

Book #40: The Dark Heroine by Abigail Gibbs. This one is a cross between Twilight and Romeo and Juliet, with a bit of 50 Shades of Grey. It’s the story of a teenage girl who’s kidnapped and held hostage by vampires, but she ends up not minding too much… You know what I’m getting at! Yup, it’s a love story, but it’s dark and twisty too, and there is a lot of family drama thrown in the mix. It’s on sale October 30th and I can’t wait to hear what you guys think.

Book #36: The Time Keeper by Mich Albom. I loved this touching story from the wonderful and inspirational Mitch Albom. This story is about the life of Father Time, and has an important lesson about how we use time, and the importance of time. It made me cry (like all his books do), and definitely reminded me of The 5 People You Meet in Heaven.  If you love Mitch Albom you have to check out this book!

And, this week I got to meet Mitch! It was a pretty exciting day.

Looking for the next read in your 50 Book Pledge?

I’m suggesting Mr. Penumbra’s 24-Hour Bookstore by Robin Sloan. It’s the next book on my list! It’s a literary adventure story about a young man who works the night shift at a mysterious bookstore… Both @corybeatty and @jacqua83 have raved about it, and it’s being compared to The Shadow of the Wind. Give the first chapter a try here!

This September we also chose a 50 Book Pledge pick! Check it out here. We’ll keep them coming monthly, just in case you’re looking for a great read!

    1. I got to 50 in July and I am now working on #77. But no matter how many books I read the number of books I want to read keeps getting bigger. That now includes Mr. Penumbra’s 24 Hour Bookstore.

  1. I’m at 38 and I’m still only counting the books that I’m reading off my own shelves, which is supposed to remind me to stop borrowing so many library books, but it’s not much of a deterrent these days apparently. Robin Sloan’s book sounds fantastic!

  2. Well, this is it. Book 49 was Robin Sloan’s Mr.Penumbra’s 24-Hour Bookstore and a fabulous read! I highly recommend it! As of today, I’m about 120 pages into Book 50, Red Rain by R.L. Stine and it’s a great Hallowe’en readiness read. Yup. Nightmares started last night. Here’s to hopefully reaching 60+ books by December and wishing everyone the best of luck in reaching and exceeding their reading goals! Happy Hallowe’en all! 😉
