Bookmarks: April 12th

Happy Friday, Savvy Readers! If you’re anything like us, you’ll be indoors waiting out this ridiculous “spring” weather until the sun starts shining again… So, you may as well put that time to good use by checking out this week’s bookmarks!

1. UFC fighter Georges St. Pierre stirred up some excitement this week during the GTA tour for his new book The Way of the Fight. He had a very busy schedule, visiting Breakfast Television, Chapters Indigo, and even our offices in the same day. He probably went home to Montreal with a pretty nasty hand cramp from the hundreds of autographs he signed! Check out a picture of his time in Toronto here, and to learn more about his book you can follow GSP on twitter @Georges St. Pierre, or read a bit about it here.

2. The hilarious Kelly Oxford certainly represents the new-age version of a Cinderella story—read about her last couple of years here. This twitter mom-turned-Hollywood-screenwriter and memoir author also visited Toronto this week to the excitement of her fellow Canadians! During the GTA portion of her tour for Everything is Perfect When You’re a Liar, Kelly also stopped by our offices and in case you’re wondering—yes, she’s just as funny in person! Check out a photo here. Kelly also attended a book signing at Chapters Indigo and spent time chatting with her many fans that came out to meet her.

3. Writer and star of My Big Fat Greek Wedding, Nia Vardolos was also here this week! In addition to interviews all over the GTA including Breakfast Television and the Global Morning Show, Chapters Indigo held a signing for her and her new book Instant Mom. She even brought her real-life Greek Family… and yes, there were many of them! And for My Big Fat Greek Wedding fans, she introduced her dad as the man who really does believe that Windex cures everything! Nia’s book details the ten-year journey she and her husband Ian took to become parents. It is raw, honest, and—considering it’s Nia—understandably hilarious. To learn more about Instant Mom, you can read about it here or you can read this blogger’s amazing review. Or, if you’d just like a good laugh, check out this video!

4. Alright, folks. You’ve been following all the Divergent Movie news, yes? Well, then you should already know that Ansel Elgort and Miles Teller have been cast for the roles of Caleb Prior and Peter, respectively. Earlier this week, the cast had their first table read and Ansel and Miles decided to give the fans a little shout-out. Check out the awesome book they’re reading!

5. It’s the grand finale of HCC March Madness! The very worthy top two have made it through many grueling rounds—will it be Harper Lee’s magnificent classic, To Kill a Mockingbird or the newer, but no less wonderful, A Walk Across the Sun by Corban Addison? Will the Classics rule all, or will this Canadian name win this year’s number one spot? It’s hard to say with the votes continuously neck to neck! Vote here to make sure your favourite takes the trophy home…and then enter on Facebook for your chance to take home all 64 of this year’s March Madness titles! The winner will be revealed this Monday, April 15—stay tuned!

That’s it for bookmarks, Savvy Readers! But while you’re still hiding from the rain/snow/whatever is happening outside, make sure you this giveaway on Goodreads—you can win a copy of the magical story The Golem and the Jinni!

Have a great weekend!
