Faction Reading Week: Dauntless

“We believe in ordinary acts of bravery, in the courage that drives one person to stand up for another.”

Oh, the Dauntless. Dauntless is a faction formed by those who believe the only answer to society’s problems is to face your fears and find bravery. Throughout Divergent and Insurgent, we see Tris learn how to fight initiates and shoot weapons; but she also creates her own definition of bravery, which includes falling in love and standing up for herself. The protagonists in the books below demonstrate the same strength throughout their adventures. I couldn’t recommend these books more!

Starling by Lesley Livingston

Mason is a kick-ass heroine. Prior to the ferocious, otherworldly storm that tears through Manhattan, she was a fierce fencer and a loyal friend. But when supernatural forces gather, Mason must do something that requires courage and confidence: trust her gut, and let a dangerous stranger into her life.

The Delirium Series by Lauren Oliver

Falling in love in a society that has deemed love forbidden is extremely brave. But as the trilogy unravels and Lena’s motivations change, she redefines what it means to be courageous and fights not only for love, but for family, for survival, for rebellion, and for what’s right.

If You Could Be Mine by Sara Farizan

Sometimes, bravery has nothing to do with tall buildings, fast trains, or physical strength. Sometimes, bravery is being true to yourself in spite of your surroundings. In If You Could Be Mine, seventeen-year-old Sahar is in love with her best friend. But Iran is a dangerous place for two girls in love, and Sahar and Nasrin could be beaten, imprisoned, even executed if their relationship came to light.

Stay strong,

We’d love to hear what you would add to this list!
