The Daniel Plan Day #1: Food
I have always considered grocery shopping my form of retail therapy (I love food!). For this reason I was excited to try out the recommended grocery list from The Daniel Plan Detox. It was fun browsing through sections of the grocery store I don’t normally spend much time in, searching for ingredients I had never heard of like tempeh and jicama (…I never found them).
Because there was a lot of produce on the grocery list, I went to a local produce wholesaler in my city. If you have a wholesaler in your neighborhood, I highly suggest you check them out before starting The Daniel Plan. They can save you a lot of money.
I came home with two heaping bags of produce, more meat than I normally buy and some trepidation about how I was going to fit it all into my fridge! It was a fun, albeit time consuming and expensive endeavor. Having said that, after making some of The Daniel Plan Detox meals, I think they will last me for a long time (I have already frozen portions of the stew I made)! I may make a mental note to spend more, less often at the grocery store from now on.
Here are some tips if you plan on doing The Daniel Plan Detox grocery shop:
- Give yourself lots of time to browse ingredients and enjoy exploring the grocery store (this won’t be your typical 30 minute grocery shop!)
- Ask your grocer questions (Help! What is a jicama?)
- Buy produce at a local wholesaler
- When you get your bill, keep in mind that each recipe serves at least 3 people
