As you guys may know, CBC’s Canada Reads competition starts on Monday. This year, they are looking for the book that has the power to change Canada.
We’re cheering for Esi Edugyan’s powerful novel, Half-Blood Blues!
Evoking the world of Paris during the Second World War, Half-Blood Blues is about the disappearance of Hiero, a talented young black German jazz musician at the hands of the Nazi Party. Half Blood Blues is an entrancing, electric story about jazz, race, love and loyalty. Already a champion, Half-Blood Blues won the Scotiabank Giller Prize in 2011.
Now, to make it even more exciting, the publishers decided to make a little wager on the competition.
The winner now gets a case of beer AND a bottle of champagne.
