Books to Help You Survive Wedding Season

You guys, I’ll admit it. I love weddings. I think they are incredibly romantic and a great excuse for a fun night out. But I also understand the exhaustion (emotionally, physically, financially!) that wedding season brings when you’re attending more than one. Moreover, I’ve witnessed first-hand the intensity of some families (and bridal parties…)

So, whether you’re happily attending one wedding this summer, overwhelmed by the thought of attending five, affectionally standing beside your best friend or have been begrudgingly chosen as your sister’s Maid of Honour (but frustratingly denied a plus one for the evening — hi Erin), here are seven fun, laugh-out-loud books that will help you survive wedding season.

1. Always the Bridesmaid by Lindsey Kelk

This book is for anyone who’s had to endure bridesmaid dress shopping one too many times. In Always the Bridesmaid, Maddie is forced to juggle her two best friends: one of whom is getting married while the other has recently filed for divorce. Featuring a handsome groomsmen, a horrible boss and a protagonist who prioritizes the new Taylor Swift CD over Tinder on her iPhone, this hilarious novel should not be missed.

Always the Bridesmaid is this week’s 50 Book Pledge Featured Read! Add it to your shelf now.

2.  Royal Wedding by Meg Cabot

Ten years after the last Princess Diaries novel, Royal Wedding picks right back up where we last left Princess Mia — planning her fairy-tale wedding to her high school sweetheart Michael. And nothing will make you believe in love more than Michael and Mia’s happily ever after.

3. I Take You by Eliza Kennedy

I Take You is an honest portrayal of all the hard decisions one has to make before saying “I do”.  Lily Wilder is a self-assured protagonist who’s choices will have you asking questions about monogamy and the true meaning of fidelity. (Note: Keep this one away from the Bride!).

4. It’s Not Me It’s You by Mhari McFarlane

There is nothing worse than experiencing a breakup and having to attend a wedding shortly after. This book is the perfect reception rescue! Delia will have you laughing out loud at the fickleness of relationships and reminding you that, let’s be real, there’s a reason you’re not marrying your ex.

5. Summer at Tiffany’s by Karen Swan

Summer at Tiffany’s is a continuation of Karen Swan’s international bestseller Christmas at Tiffany’s. Fear not, though:  despite this, the book itself can be read as a standalone as Cassie begins to plan her second marriage to Henry. Like its predecessor, Summer at Tiffany‘s looks at the often overlooked (and under-appreciated) second chance at love.

6. The Royal We by Heather Cocks and Jessica Morgan

In The Royal We, Rebecca Porter was never one for fairy tales when she finds herself living down the hall from Prince Nicholas, Great Britain’s future king, at Oxford. But Bex can’t resist falling for Nick, the person behind the prince, and this propels her into a world she did not expect to inhabit, under a spotlight she is not prepared to face.

7. Modern Romance by Aziz Ansari

Attending your first Tinder-matched wedding? If so, Modern Romance by comedian Aziz Ansari is the perfect book to bring along. In Modern Romance, Ansari shares a hilarious, thoughtful, and in-depth exploration of the pleasures and perils of modern romance and finding love with the “help” of technology.
