50 Book Pledge Featured Read: The Wonder

Hey Savvy Readers,

Did you hear?? The Wonder by Emma Donoghue has been shortlisted for The Giller Prize! Congrats Emma! If that’s not enough reason to get reading, we’ve given you a couple more below.

The Wonder tells the story of Anna O’Donnell, an 11 year old girl in 1850s Ireland who has – allegedly – lasted for four months without eating or drinking anything more than water. To prove that she is really a wonder, Lib, an English nurse, is sent to the O’Donnell household to watch Anna for 2 weeks, to make sure she really is a miracle.

If you haven’t picked up your copy of The Wonder yet, here are a few reasons to rush to your nearest bookseller and grab it!

  • The Wonder is one of those books that you can’t help but fall right into. With an incredible hook right at the beginning, you can’t stop yourself from dying to know what is really happening to Anna.
  • The characters in The Wonder are living their life in such a simple and wholesome manner, stopping in their day to day life to pray, that when the nurse Lib comes in, her questioning makes you think every person is hiding something sinister. The only way to find out the truth? Read the book!
  • Emma Donoghue is so skilled in writing stories from perspectives that most of us don’t every experience in real life. Following the huge success of ROOM, written in the perspective of a young boy, this book grips you in a different but very familiar way. Donoghue skillfully immerses readers into a completely different time period

So, Savvy Readers! Are you on your way to pick up your copy of The Wonder? Let us know what you think when you finish it (this is a great excuse to skip work for the day to read! We know we want to!).
