Bookmarks: November 25th

Happy Friday, Savvy Readers! (Or should I say “Happy Gilmore Girls Day”?) There’s been a lot of excitement swirling around the book world this week and I can’t wait to get started. If you’re new to Bookmarks, this is where we share our favourite bookish news, links, and photos from the past week. And if you’re a Gilmore Girls fan, I think you’ll love our first link…

1. What to Read if You Love Gilmore Girls

We couldn’t celebrate Gilmore Girls Day without a reading list! We’ve paired our favourite show with our favourite books in this handy list. What could be better? Let us know if you’ll be watching the show (no spoilers!) and let us know what your favourite pairing is in the comments below.

2. Bring Fantastic Beasts Home with The Case of Beasts

If you’ve watched Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them this past week and, like me, have fallen in love with all of the magical creatures in Newt’s case, you won’t want to miss The Case of Beasts! I love this video (above) shared by Pottermore and J.K. Rowling showing some of the cool features of the book. Learn more here!

3. Celebrate the Lead-Up to the Holidays with the Short Story Advent Calendar

Unique advent calendars are all the rage these days and The Short Story Advent Calendar is one of my favourites! With 24 stories leading up to the holidays, this is the perfect pre-Christmas gift that bookworms will love. Michael Hingston, one of the creators of the calendar, spoke to CBC Books this week and teased that some of our favourite authors (including Daniel Handler — AKA Lemony Snicket) will be featured. And lastly…

Super exciting news, Ontario Veronica Roth fans! Veronica Roth will be making a stop in Ontario during her Carve the Mark tour in January. Indigo and HCC Frenzy announced the news this week, and you can find all details here. Who will we see there? Let us know which tour stop you’re planning to go to in the comments below or on Twitter @SavvyReader.

Have a great weekend, Savvy Readers! And, to our American friends, Happy Thanksgiving!
