Hey there Savvy Readers,
Can you believe that a week from today is Christmas Eve!?!? It came up fast, didn’t it? Well, we’ve got you covered with gift guides on gift guides and great books to read in between. Oh, and contests and giveaways, and friendly reminders to keep that 50 Book Pledge shelf up-to-date! It’s all part of the holiday fun, right?
The 50 Book Pledge
We are at 91% of our goal. That’s huge! But there’s only a couple very short weeks left (seriously… two weeks!!!). Boy oh boy do we have a lot of reading to do, Savvy Readers! But I know we can do it….
Side note: All pledgers, new and old, should definitely check this out as we move into 2017.
This Week’s Featured Read
Moonglow unfolds as the deathbed confession, made to his grandson, of a man the narrator refers to only as “my grandfather.” It is a tale of madness, of war and adventure, of sex and desire and ordinary love, of existential doubt and model rocketry, of the shining aspirations and demonic underpinnings of American technological accomplishment at mid-century and, above all, of the destructive impact-and the creative power-of the keeping of secrets and the telling of lies. Moonglow is Chabon at his most daring, his most moving, his most Chabonesque.
Here’s what our fellow readers thought:
“Chabon’s beautiful writing, his ability to touch difficult subjects, to write from the perspective of another, to share personal stories, and to show his readers an important part of history from such an unusual angle, is simply brilliant. MOONGLOW is a rare beauty of a book and one that I will treasure.” – carilynp, Amazon.ca
“This book is a privilege to read, written by a master of language. Read it slowly, savor it, read it again.” – AnneGG, Amazon.ca
“I loved, loved, loved this book.” – Krista, Goodreads
