What We’re Reading This Month: March

Happy March, Savvy Readers!

We’re now THREE months into the 2017 50 Book Pledge, and our TBR lists are still growing (will they ever not?). We’re about to make yours longer too, when you check out what we’re reading below…

(Sorry not sorry).

Karen is reading A Simple Favour by Darcey Bell.

This month I’m reading A Simple Favor by Darcey Bell and I can’t recommend it enough! Here is an actual text message I sent Suman while reading:

Need I say more? About a “mommy blogger” whose life gets turned upside down when her best friend/next door neighbour asks her for a simple favor, this book is a rollercoaster ride that will have you hooked until the very last page.

Catherine is reading The Best of Adam Sharp by Graeme Simsion.

This is the new book from the author of The Rosie Project! It all starts with a simple email (“Hi”) from our narrator’s first (but long-lost) love and takes off from there. While this feels like more of a mature read than Rosie, it has that same compulsively readable quality that will have you curled up with your book all weekend long.

Brenann is reading The Valiant by Lesley Livingston.

This month I’m reading The Valiant by Lesley Livingston and it’s a gem! I’m loving Fallon! She’s a strong lead character who knows what she wants and is great in a fight! Lesley Livingston does a wonderful job introducing us to Fallon’s world. But what I really loved about The Valiant was how much I love the other characters surrounding Fallon and how much flavor they give the story. A definite keep-you-up-at-night-one-more-chapter kind of book!

Kelsey is reading Her Every Fear by Peter Swanson.

I’m always looking for the next new thriller to read, and I’m currently racing my way through Her Every Fear. This book is filled with so many plot twists and it is perfectly creepy.  It’ll have you questioning every character!  If you love a good murder mystery, this one should definitely be moved up to the top of your TBR!

Ashley is reading Perfect Little World by Kevin Wilson.

I needed a light read after finishing a (very disturbing) thriller, and I’ve been eyeing this bright orange cover for some time. Isabelle Poole is fresh out of high school and pregnant with her art teacher’s baby. He convinces her to enter The Infinite Family Project (due to her lack of family and funds, and his inability to take care of a child), where ten children are raised collectively, without knowing who their biological parents are. I can’t wait to see how this one turns out! Side note: I’m so on track with my 50 Book Pledge goal and I’m SO proud of myself for it.

Kelly is reading Carve the Mark by Veronica Roth

No one writes characters who are equal parts empowered and vulnerable quite like Veronica Roth. Sure: it’s inspiring to read about strong heroines, but it’s fulfilling to read about relatable ones—and when a character embodies both of these elements at once, you know you’ve found a story worth following. Carve the Mark’s Cyra is a mystery I feel compelled to unearth because while she exists under extraordinary circumstances (in outer space, at that!), she’s still achingly human. From Divergent to Carve the Mark, Veronica Roth’s guaranteed my loyal readership for the way in which she crafts characters who are realistically tormented—yet admirably emboldened—by the adversity they face.
