Bookmarks: March 3rd

Hi Savvy Readers! I hope you’re having a wonderful week (maybe one full of reading time?). It’s been an incredibly busy week here at The Savvy Reader but one that was filled with a lot of fun bookish news. And, since I’m so excited to share it all with you, let’s get right into our first Bookmark of the week…

1. It’s March Madness, Savvy Readers!!!!!

That’s right — HarperCollins Canada’s annual March Madness tournament is back! What’s even more exciting is that it’s the 10th anniversary of #HCCMarchMadness. Eek! If you’re new to HCC March Madness, it’s an annual tournament of books where readers vote in match-ups to determine the one title that will join the Shelf of Fame. Find out more at

What’s that? Toys to inspire young minds to achieve whatever their imaginations dream up? Yes please! It was announced this week that Katherine Johnson, now a household name thanks to Margot Lee Shetterly’s Hidden Figures, will be a part of Lego’s new NASA set. Have you all been watching Alec Baldwin on SNL? Well, the fun doesn’t stop after Saturday night: it was announced this week that Alec Baldwin is working with Kurt Andersen on a “satirical book” about the new President of the United States. Can’t wait until the book comes out? Be sure to watch out for Nevertheless, Alec Baldwin‘s memoir, out on April 4th! Learn more about both books here and here.

4. Angie Thomas Tweets to her 2015 Self (And It’s Lovely)

Angie Thomas’ phenomenal The Hate U Give came out this Tuesday, and this thread she wrote to her 2015 self on Twitter is everything. Whether you’re an aspiring writer or a lover of great stories, I’d highly recommend reading it here. (Warning: it might make you a little misty eyed!) Learn more about The Hate U Give here.

5. Carly Rae Jepsen is a Bookworm Like Us!

If you follow me on Twitter you may have suspected (read: known for a fact) that I’m just a wee bit (read: a lot) obsessed with Carly Rae Jepsen. Besides having amazing style and heart-wrenchingly good music, she’s also a bookworm! (Did you know that she used to have a monthly online book club called the Nerdy Girlz Book Club?) Well, the book club may be inactive now, but Carly Rae tweeted this week that she has a new book in her bag: Just Kids by Patti Smith. Great choice! Do you have a book club? What is your book club reading this month?

Alright, Savvy Readers, that’s all I have for this week! We love hearing from you, so please send us your favourite book news from the past week on Twitter @SavvyReader or in the comments below!
