When reading a good book, it’s very important to create the perfect reading atmosphere. My favourite method? CANDLES! We’ve paired up our favourite scented candles with the best books in order to make your reading experience the best it can be!
This Kate Spade candle is adorable with its pink-and-white stripes and gold accents. The lily-scented candle is the perfect companion for Kerri Clare’s Mitzi Bytes. The novel follows Sarah Lundy as she runs a secret blog about her friends and family. Things go south when a mysterious “Jane Q” threatens to reveal everything. Sarah is hilarious, witty, and real, and she would love this girly yet sophisticated candle.
The Plumb family is dysfunctional. The four adult children, who have never quite gotten along, are brought together as they wait to cash in on their piece of the family heritance. This book is full of family drama, but let this candle be a nice reminder while you read that there is no place like home. The lemonade scent will fill you with lovely memories of your own childhood and (hopefully) less dysfunctional family.
What better way to set the mood while you revisit a classic than by lighting a Gatsby-themed candle? While reading about Jay Gatsby’s lavish parties, breathe in the scents of juniper, apple, rosemary and daisy and bring the 1920’s to life!
We’ve paired the most badass candle we could find with the most badass #Girlboss book! Feminist Fight Club shares stories and statistics from women facing sexism in the workplace. This cheeky manual/manifesto provides practical career advice and humorous reinforcement for a new generation of professional women. Use this amazing candle by Ms. Betty to reaffirm your boss-ness as you read this insightful guide.
This Voluspa candle has notes of linden branch and leaf with moss and blond tabac, providing a lush fragrance to transport you into the world of Dragon Springs Road. The story takes place in twentieth-century Shanghai during the collapse of the imperial dynasty, and follows two girls of different means as they are tested by duty, honour and love. This candle’s exterior even matches the beautiful cover of Dragon Springs Road. A truly perfect pairing in every way!
There’s nothing like a good cedar candle to transport you into a beautiful, calm forest on a sunny day. This gorgeous candle from Bougies La Francaise is perfect while you read Cea Sunrise Person’s memoirs about her unconventional childhood living off the land in rural Alberta. Person shares incredible anecdotes about her relationship with her family while living in a Teepee and hunting and gathering in the forest to survive. The forest setting is the perfect backdrop for this tale of a dysfunctional family, and this candle will help complete the whole picture!
We are so excited for Jennifer Robson’s new novel, Goodnight from London! It’s the story of young American journalist Ruby Sutton, as she leaves her past life behind and moves to London to report on the war. As the nightly Blitz begins over the city, Ruby finds true friends in unexpected places and falls for a military captain with his own secrets to hide. We’ve paired this romantic historical saga with Jo Malone’s Peony and Blush Suede candle. With scents of blooming peonies, roses and jasmine, this seductive candle will fill you with ideas of spring, romance, and hope.
A magical candle is absolutely necessary when preparing to read a magical book such as The Lonely Hearts Hotel. Heather O’Neill’s latest novel is a beautiful love story that follows two orphans with dreams of stardom. Sweeping across the gritty underground of Montreal and New York at the beginning of the 20th century, this novel captures magic and beauty in a remarkable way. The Illume Blackberry Absinth candle packs a punch: “blackberries, sweet orange and green leaves with a heart of crimson rose and Egyptian jasmine petals steeped with peppery anise, black sandalwood, liquid amber and earthy patchouli.” Each note blends together to create a unique and magical scent that is worthy of O’Neill’s dreamy tale.
This candle takes its inspiration from none other than beloved sleuth Sherlock Holmes. Join Holmes and Watson on another adventure with Art in the Blood. Try to solve the case while the signature smells of 221B Baker Street waft around your room: pipe tobacco, Cherrywood and fresh rain.
