50 Book Pledge Featured Read: The Lightkeeper’s Daughters

Savvy Readers! This week’s 50 Book Pledge Featured Read is an instant international bestseller. The Lightkeeper’s Daughters only went on sale last week!

Meet Elizabeth: an elderly lady living in a retirement home with little to no family left living. She has recently gone blind, leaving her unable to read her beloved books or gaze at the paintings that she longs to. Instead, she fills her time with music and memories of her family—a past that becomes all too present when her late father’s journals are found and given to her.

Meet Morgan: a delinquent teenager who grew up in a foster home after the passing of her parents. She’s performing community service at a retirement home when she finds a painting of a dragonfly in Elizabeth’s room that intrigues her.

With the help of Morgan, Elizabeth is able to go through her father’s journals, a journey through time that brings Morgan and Elizabeth together. They are taken to a completely different time and place—Porphyry Island on Lake Superior, seventy years earlier. And as the words come alive, Elizabeth and Morgan begin to realize that their fates are connected to the islands, and there’s a mystery to uncover. The pages of the journals leave both women with more questions than answers.

Let’s put it this way: I read this book a while ago, and I’m STILL thinking about the family secrets that were uncovered. Pendziwol sends you for a twist that you will not see coming, and will have to stop and think. I loved the way that Morgan and Elizabeth grew together with the pages of the journal.
