We love stepping foot in independent bookstores – they are a magical realm of books and make for an oh-so-special shopping experience. But how do they survive in the age of Amazon and online retailers? They’re actually thriving, according to Harvard professor Ryan Raffaelli. He’s been conducting research to see how these small bookstores manage to survive in the modern world. Click here to read about his fascinating findings! Where you do you buy your books, Savvy Readers? Let us know in the comments!

Have you ever dreamt of owning a first edition of your favourite book? How about a first edition with a cover designed by your favourite author?! This December, Sotheby’s is auctioning off a collection of recovered first edition books for charity.  Artists, designers, authors, and illustrators have created original jackets for each book, and they are stunning. My favourite? Neil Gaiman’s cover for Fahrenheit 451!

Click here to see more of these beautiful covers! And if you’re feeling charitable, the bids start here on December 11!
