Hey there, Savvy Readers! Welcome to the last edition of Bookmarks of 2017!! With all the bookish news that’s happened, it’s been a busy year. We’ve got one more dose of the latest news from the world of books for the year, so buckle up!

 1. ‘Feminism’ is Merriam-Webster’s Word of the Year

Merriam-Webster has revealed its word of the year: feminism. Lookups for the word on the dictionary website increased by 70% in 2017. After a year of women’s marches, Hillary, and the #MeToo movement, it’s no surprise that the word feminism is on everybody’s mind. Read more about the history of the word here.

2. 4-year old Boy reads 100 books in a day

Yes, you read that correctly. 100 books. In ONE day. Sign this boy up for the 50 Book Pledge! Caleb Green from Chicago loves to read. When he decided he wanted to read 100 books in a day, his mom live streamed the event. Spoiler Alert: Caleb completed his goal! You can watch highlights from the live stream here. How many books can you read in a day?

3. Harry Potter written by a bot

A bit of fun for all you Harry Potter fans! Botnik Studios, a team that experiments with bots and AI, has been working with a predictive writer to create a new Harry Potter chapter. The predictive keyboard used all seven Harry Potter books to create an algorithm to make a new chapter. The results are absolute hilarious:

“Magic: it was something that Harry Potter thought was very good.”

4. She-Ra Reboot From the Creator of Nimona


This week it was announced that Noelle Stevenson, the award-winning creator of Nimona, will be heading a She-Ra reboot for Netflix! The series is described as “an epic and timely tale that celebrates female friendship and empowerment, led by a warrior princess tailor made for today.” It will be released on Netflix in 2018, and we can’t wait to see what Noelle has in store for us! 5. The Woman in the Window Trailer (!)


Are you as excited for The Woman in the Window as we are?! This Hitchcockian thriller is about an agoraphobic woman who believes she witnessed a terrible crime in her neighbour’s house. Today, Parade revealed the exclusive trailer for the book and looks AMAZING. Check it out now! The Woman in the Window comes out January 2nd, so get ready for the biggest book of 2018!
