Bookmarks: February 23

Hi Savvy Readers! This week flew by, and I can’t wait for a weekend of lounging in bed reading! But first, we’ve got an all-new Bookmarks, to share with you the latest bookish news, links, and photos!

1. A Tour of Literary Bars and Cafés

All the great writers have had their favourite haunts to enjoy a beverage and put words to paper. Lit Hub has gathered all the bars and cafés that your literary heroes frequented way back when, and they’re beautiful. See where Ernest Hemingway, Charles Dickens, and J.R.R. Tolkien were inspired, and maybe add a few places to your bucket list and find some creative inspiration of your own! See the list here.

2. Cover Reveals!

It’s been an exciting week of cover reveals in the book world! Some (pretty incredible) YA covers were revealed, including This Is Kind Of An Epic Love Story by Kheryn Callender and Two Dark Reigns by Kendare Blake. Our friends over at Frenzy rounded them all up, so check out all the reveals here! What do you think of the covers? Which is your favourite? Let us know in the comments below!

3. Women better represented in Victorian novels than modern

Although we live in a time where feminism is celebrated, a recent study revealed that women were better represented in Victorian literature than they are now. The universities of Illinois and California at Berkeley created the study to determine how prominent female characters and authors are in literature spanning across two centuries. Researchers expected to see a rise in females, however the results were the opposite: they found “a fairly stunning decline” in both female characters and female authors. Huh?! Read more about the study and its unexpected results here.
