Hey, Savvy Readers!
For this week’s featured read, we’re bringing you the YA novel from award-winning author Hadley Dyer: Here So Far Away.
The story follows George Warren, a fearless and feisty teenage girl who is ready to party away senior year before hightailing it out of town after graduation. But of course, nothing is quite that easy.
After a major falling out with one of her best friends, George is cast aside by her normal friend group. The biggest downfall to this? George is left with no one to confide in about her new relationship with an older man.
Yes, George meets and falls for 29-year old Frances who just so happens to work in the same police department from which her dad is on medical leave. The two share the same sarcastic banter and, despite the obvious trouble they would both get into if they were caught, they can’t seem to stay away from one another.
Of course, while all this is happening, George’s home life isn’t so great. After being on medical leave from the police force for an amputated foot, it’s unclear whether George’s dad will ever be able to return to work. This not only put her college funds in jeopardy (and she REALLY wants to get out of there), but it causes tension between her parents. Could things get any more complicated?
If you’re a fan of YA, you’ll love this novel. Instead of your typical teen romance, it’s a beautifully written, heart-wrenching story of teenage angst and forbidden love that’ll have you rooting for the refreshingly snarky, teenage protagonist.
