The Power of Kindness by Dr. Brian Goldman

2018 was a really rough year, wasn’t it? I mean, this article was published, and if that headline is any indication of what the last couple years have been like, then I think I’m safe to assume that we could all use a little more kindness in our lives. Thankfully for us, Dr. Brian Goldman is going to help us get there. Powerful and engaging, The Power of Kindness takes us far from the theatre of medicine and into the world at large, and investigates why kindness is so vital to our existence.

First, We Make The Beast Beautiful by Sarah Wilson

One of the most beautiful things about 2018 is the fact that it at least seems like we made tremendous strides in talking openly about issues like depression and anxiety. While we still have a ways to go before we end the stigma related to all mental illnesses, it’s at least a promising start. Practical and poetic, wise and funny, First, We Make the Beast Beautiful will encourage the myriad souls who dance with anxiety to embrace it as a part of who they are, and to explore the possibilities it offers for a richer, fuller life.

The 5am Club by Robin Sharma

I know, I know, we all like our sleep. Confession: I probably sleep a little bit too much. But, just because we like our sleep, that doesn’t mean that we have to hate mornings, and Robin Sharma is here to help us take control of our mornings. Part manifesto for mastery, part playbook for genius-grade productivity and part companion for a life lived beautifully, The 5am Club is a work that will transform your life. Forever.

The Subtle Art of Not Giving A F*ck by Mark Manson

If you haven’t heard of Mark Manson‘s The Subtle Art of Not Giving A F*ck before, you either (1) Haven’t stepped foot in a bookstore in the last, like, two years; or (2) Have been living under a rock. This book has been THE self-help book of the last year, with over a million copies being sold worldwide. I don’t know what else I can say about this book that hasn’t already been said, aside from the fact that no self-help reading list is complete without it.

GuRu by RuPaul

If you’ve ever seen even, like, five minutes of RuPaul’s Drag Race, you know that RuPaul is all about motivation, inspiration, and recognizing our own self-worth. That approach to life is what makes GuRu such a wonderful book – it isn’t a matter of transforming ourselves, but simply a matter of transforming the way we think about ourselves.
