50 Book Pledge Featured Read: The One

Have you read The One by John Marrs yet? With equal parts thriller, sci-fi, and romance, this book has a wildly intriguing premise and you’ll be up all night trying to finish it to see what happens. You’ve been warned!

And good news: it’s being turned into a Netflix series! But of course, you MUST read the book before the adaptation, because we all know Books > Movie/TV Show. Read on for our review of John MarrsThe One!

If you’re a fan of the dark TV series Black Mirror, you’re going to love The One. This futuristic story imagines what happens after scientists discover the genetic code that pairs people with their soulmates.

Match Your DNA is a science-based dating company that uses a swab of your saliva to identify a gene that’s only receptive to the person you are genetically “made” for: your soulmate. Since the company’s discovery over a decade ago, millions of people around the world have been matched. But the service has its downsides: divorces and breakups have spiked and the traditional ideas of dating and love are now upended.

The One follows five individuals who have used Match Your DNA to find their match. Though they are very different people leading very different lives, they’ve all just received the notification that they’ve been “Matched” and are about to meet their soulmates.

But a storybook ending isn’t guaranteed for everyone, because even soul mates have secrets. And some are more shocking than others…

Trust me, you are in for one wild ride as Mandy, Christopher, Jade, Nick, and Ellie navigate their way through finding true love. You’ll want to binge this book in one sitting as you get to know each narrator and their story.

With compelling story lines, jaw-dropping cliffhangers, and clever dialogue, The One should be at the very top of your TBR list this spring!

The One by John Marrs is this week’s 50 Book Pledge Featured Read. Add it to your 50 Book Pledge shelf today!
