Bookmarks: August 16

Happy Friday, Savvy Readers! It’s time for your weekly roundup of all things books and I have some exciting bookmarks to share!

1. The trailer for the upcoming Little Women movie finally dropped!

Full to bursting with a star-studded cast that includes Emma Watson, Meryl Streep, and Saoirse Ronan, the cinematic adaptation of Louisa May Alcott‘s beloved novel is set to be released in the United States on December 25, 2019! Although this will be the eighth feature film adaptation of Alcott’s work, rumour has it this version will be anything but ordinary. Watch the trailer here.

2. JD Salinger’s novels will be released in ebook format

Obsessed with privacy in his final years and reportedly ‘horrified’ by Facebook, it’s no surprise Salinger swore off computers and technology. But now, a letter from a disabled fan who struggles to read print books has galvanized his son to ensure his father’s work remains as affordable and accessible as possible. Salinger’s four published works:,The Catcher in the Rye, Nine Stories, Franny and Zooey, and Raise High the Roof Beam, Carpenters and Seymour: An Introduction will soon be made available in ebook format. Read more about this story.

3. Obama shared his summer reading list and the man has taste

Between Hilary Mantel‘s Wolf Hall and Toni Morrison’s entire body of collected works, I’m swooning over the former president’s taste in literature. An eclectic mix of fiction, non-fiction, sci-fi, and thriller, if there was one celebrity’s bookshelf I’d be allowed to raid Obama would be at the top of my list! Read his full list of summer reading suggestions here.

Well Savvy Readers, that’s all for this edition of Bookmarks. I hope you’re as excited by these tidbits of literary news as I am! Tell me, have you read any of the books on Obama’s list? And which of his suggestions are you adding to your own TBR?

Happy weekend!
