50 Book Pledge Featured Read: Our Stop

The summer of the rom-com continues with this week’s 50 Book Pledge Featured Read, Savvy Readers!

From Mhairi McFarlane and Sally Thorne, to Alisha Rai and Farah Heron, and everyone in between, we have been absolutely spoiled with great romantic comedies this year, and this week’s 50 Book Pledge Featured Read is definitely no exception to that trend! Let’s set the scene, shall we?

What if you almost missed the love of your life?

In classic rom-com fashion, our story’s protagonist, Nadia, has a bit of a mishap in the morning that sets off a chain of events of epic (romantic) proportions. You see, Nadia catches the 7:30 train to work every. single. day. (As a commuter who also catches the 7:30 train every morning, I feel her pain on a deep, deep level.) Except, of course, this day. Why? Well, that’s because she ended up oversleeping after staying at her friend Emma’s house after a bit too much wine. I had horror flashbacks to running for (and ultimately missing, while trying to catch my breath) the 7:30 train…

And now, in classic rom-com fashion, enter our other protagonist, Daniel! Unlike Nadia, Daniel always catches the 7:30 train. You see, Daniel’s father died a while back and he hasn’t been able to sleep properly since. As a result, he’s never late for his morning train.

This doesn’t really fit, but it’s a great line

One morning, something peculiar in the morning paper catches Nadia’s eye. It’s a message in the classifieds. The message? To the cute girl with the coffee stains on her dress. I’m the guy who’s always standing near the doors… Drink sometime? If that isn’t a meet-cute, then I don’t know what is! From that moment, we’re taken on a not-quite romantic tale of near-misses, true love, and the power of the written word.
