Happy Wednesday Savvy Readers! National Read a Book Day is coming up on Friday, and we’ve curated a great list of books for you to read today. Let’s jump right into it.

Akin by Emma Donoghue

Emma Donoghue returns with another great masterpiece, Akin. This novel shares a story of love and loss within a family. An older man’s life turns upside down when he agrees to take in his great-nephew. While their trip in the French Riviera, they start unraveling his mother’s past secrets. Five Wives by Joan Thomas

A group of evangelical Christian missionaries, along with their families, journey through the Ecuadorian rain forest. Five men from the group enter in a forbidden zone and were killed, abandoning their wives and children to fight for their lives. These five women experience grief, doubt, and heartache together as they try to continue their evangelical mission.

A Girl Named Anna by Lizzy Barber

This suspenseful page-turner features two sisters who only follows the rules of their mother. As soon as Anna turns eighteen, she rebels against her mother’s word and goes off to Astroland. Once Anna gets to the theme park, she realizes it’s all too familiar to her. Anna suddenly goes missing and her sister, Rosie, fifteen years later tries to find answers to her sister’s disappearance.

Home Front Girls by Suzanne Hayes and Loretta Nyhan

For all you history buffs, this novel is for you! Set in World War II, Suzanne Hayes and Loretta Nyhan focus on strong female characters. They share a story of their unexpected bond through their letters of both their husbands fighting in the war. Through the darkest of times, these women’s friendship prevails.

After the Flood by Kassandra Montag

Within this gorgeous book cover, lies a riveting story of action and adventure featuring a woman and her eight-year-old daughter. Right before the birth of her daughter, Pearl, Myra’s home was flooded. Pearl was the only reason Myra was distracted from the memories of her older daughter Row, who had been kidnapped right out of her home. Cold Storage by David Koepp

This amazing debut by the screenwriter of Jurassic Park is an adventurous story about three complete strangers working together to contain a highly CONTAGIOUS and DEADLY organism. They struggle to quarantine this organism before it reaches the rest of humanity. Get ready for a wild ride!

The Chestnut Man by Soren Sveistrup

The Ventriloquists by E.R. Ramzipoor

Another great read for your history buffs! Inspired by real-life events, sets a story in World War II about a group of fighters who struggle through such lengths and risks their lives to publish a newspaper mocking the Reich.
