Community Post: Savvy Bookish Confessions

Everyone has a deep, dark (literary) confession buried deep in their minds, right? Whether it’s a book they absolutely hate or a genre they just can’t stand, reading is such a subjective experience that these confessions are sure to sprout up from time to time. Earlier this month, we asked the Savvy Reader community for their deepest, darkest literary confessions, and boy oh boy did we get some doozies! Without further ado, here are some Savvy Bookish Confessions, courtesy of you, the Savvy Reader community!

“I like to read the last few lines of the ending either before I start the book but definitely by mid-book.” – Shamini

“I don’t think people should ever be ashamed of the things that they have, or haven’t, read. All reading counts. Audiobooks? Count. eBooks? Count. Comics? Count. Picture books you read to your kids? Count.” – Erin

“I am unable to DNF, even when I should.” – Freda

“When I buy a hardcover, I have to be the first to crack it open.” – Judy

“When I go for my daily walks, I always plan out a route so that I can visit a free Little Library.” – Ellen

“I do judge a book by its cover if I don’t like the particular style it features. I’m not even going to touch the book, let alone read it.” – Kathy

“I have been known to hide in my laundry room and read. It’s the one room in the house that my husband and son don’t use!” – Karren

“Sometimes I’m late for work because I can’t put a book down.” – Margaret

“I have over 200 unread books on my shelves. I just like to have a good selection to pick from because I’m a huge mood reader.” – Jennifer

“I have bought copies of my favourite books at used bookstores with the intention of passing them to friends and ended up keeping them because I just couldn’t part with them.” – Heather

“I keep purchasing books even though I have a large pile of to-read books. Sometimes I sneak them in the house like I did when I was a kid.” – Nikki

“I spent $150 on one rare hardcover book so I could have the complete series in a matching set.” – Natasha

“If I like a book, I like to buy multiple copies with different covers, like A Fine BalanceEast of Eden, all of Jane Austen’s, and Harry Potter.” – May

“If I start purchasing a series with a particular type of cover, I need to finish the series with that style of cover. If I am given a book in the series but it doesn’t match, I will say thanks and donate it to the local library and get myself the correct version.” – Anita
