Welcome to Monday and hope you all had a great weekend, Savvy Readers! Known for the bestselling book and now a popular Netflix film, Dumplin’, Julie Murphy, has released a heartwarming and funny story, Dear Sweet Pea. Disney Channel has already optioned the rights to Dear Sweet Pea and it is currently a project on the Disney Channel Original Movie development slate. Get ready to dive right into this week’s 50 Book Pledge Featured Read!

The story follows Patricia DiMarco, who goes by the nickname of “Sweet Pea”. She didn’t know what to expect when her parents announced to her that they were getting a divorce. Her parents came up with a “brilliant” idea of living in almost identical houses on the same street. Their neighbor, Miss Flora Mae, who lives in between the two houses, is a famed local advice columnist behind “Miss Flora Mae I?”. Think you know where this one is going?

From the struggle of having to sit right next to her ex-best friend, Kiera, in class and being reminded of what their friendship once was, to dividing her time between two homes, Sweet Pea was not having an easy time adjusting. Fortunately for her, everything was made bearable because of her new best friend, Oscar, and her fifteen-pound cat, Cheese.

One day, Miss Flora Mae was leaving for a trip and asked Sweet Pea to forward the letters to her for the column. Sweet Pea wasn’t curious about any of the letters until she recognized one of the handwriting on a letter. And what she decides to with that letter… well, I’m going to have to stop right here, because I don’t want to spoil what happens next! Savvy Readers, I promise you this: you’re not going to want to miss what Sweet Pea decides to do! This decision sets off a whole chain of events that dominos into the lives of Sweet Pea, her family and the readers of Miss Flora Mae’s column.

Dear Sweet Pea is brilliant, honest, and portrays real world issues dealing with society, friendship, self-esteem and family. Don’t miss out on this amazing read!
