Bookmarks: December 13

Another week has come and gone, meaning we’re another week closer to the holidays! Are you as excited as we are, Savvy Readers? Since the week is coming to a close, we have a new edition of Bookmarks for you, so let’s jump in!

1. The Savvy Reader Gift Guide is officially live!

This is a little shameless self-plug here, but our gift guide is now live! Complete with gift recommendations, festive perfect pairings, a Christmas playlist, and more, this year’s gift guide is the perfect thing to get you in the holiday spirit! You can check it out here! Have any song recommendations to add? Let us know in the comments or on Twitter!

2. Goodreads Choice Awards winners were announced!

The Goodreads Choice Awards are basically the Oscars of the book world, and the final voting results were released a couple days ago! We were so thrilled to see Girl, Stop Apologizing by Rachel Hollis and Over the Top by Jonathan Van Ness take home the nonfiction and memoir & autobiography titles respectively, as they were some of our favourite reads of the year. You can find the full list of winners here. Did your favourites take home any awards? Do you agree with the awards? Let us know!

3. Angie Thomas’s On The Come Up is officially becoming a movie!

So, we actually knew a little while ago that On the Come Up, the amazing follow-up to Angie Thomas‘s groundbreaking novel The Hate U Give, was optioned for film, but we have just learned that Kay Oyegun (of This Is Us fame, might I add!) has signed on to write the screenplay, George Tillman Jr. will be back to direct the movie, and Angie herself is slated to produce the film! That’s a whole lot of news in one sentence, so you can read all of the exciting news for yourself here.

4. Another Joe Hill story is making the jump to the big screen… but which one?

Another one of Joe Hill’s terrifying stories is making the jump to the big screen, but we have to wait to find out which one. Scott Derrickson and C. Robert Cargill, the very same people who co-wrote the unbelievably creepy Sinister and who are currently working on the sequel to Doctor Strange, recently announced that their next project will be a Joe Hill adaptation of some sort. Unfortunately for us, they’re keeping their lips tightly sealed. Which Joe Hill story do you most want to see make the jump to the big screen next? We think The Fireman would make a great film! You can read more about the announcement here!

That’s all we have for you this week, Savvy Readers. Did we miss anything? Let us know in the comments or on Twitter @SavvyReader!

Happy reading! And remember: be nice to retail workers.
