Can you believe the first (full) week of 2020 is already done, Savvy Readers?! If you’re in Ontario, we hear there’s a massive storm headed our way, so get ready to bunker down with a good book – it might be a long weekend. Here’s some of the most exciting news of the week!
1. 2020 Canada Reads Longlist Announced
On Wednesday, CBC Books announced the longlist for the 2020 version of Canada Reads, and we were SO thrilled to see one of our favourite books of 2019 – Worry by Jessica Westhead – make the list. Check out the full list here. Which books are you hoping to see make the cut?
2. Costa Book Award Winners Announced
It has been a great week for some of our favourite books of last year, as it was announced earlier this week that The Confessions of Frannie Langton won the Costa Book Award in the First Novel category! Check out the rest of the winners here. A remarkable literary debut with echoes of Alias Grace, The Underground Railroad and The Paying Guest, The Confessions of Frannie Langton should 100% be on your TBR piles if it isn’t already! Check out the full list of winners here.
3. Barack Obama’s Reading List Wows
We’re a little late to this one, Savvy Readers, but, like other years, former president Barack Obama released a list of his favourite reads of 2019. Out of the 38 books that made his list, we can’t recommend Albert Woodfox‘s Solitary enough. Looking to grow your TBR pile? You can check it out here!
That’s all we’ve got for this week, Savvy Readers. Have anything else to add? Feel free to let us know in the comments or on Twitter @SavvyReader!
