Happy Friday Savvy Readers! Another week has come and gone and this one has been especially strange. Whether you’re practicing social distancing or working on the frontlines I hope you’re staying safe and healthy, and most of all, making time to read because it’s time for your weekly roundup of the latest literary news!
1. In the spirit of social distancing, authors are offering virtual readings for their followers!
From the queen of thrillers, Hannah Mary McKinnon, to children’s author Oliver Jeffers, the literary community is banding together to provide bookworms with tons of online entertainment! Every day at 11:30 AM (EST) Hannah Mary McKinnon will read the first chapter of a new book for fans on her Facebook page. Her videos will be saved for you to watch at your leisure and will also be posted to her Instagram and Twitter accounts! For the little ones, Oliver Jeffers is hosting his own picture book readings every day at 1:00 PM (EST) on his Instagram, with the saved videos to be uploaded to his website! And, as if that wasn’t amazing enough, one of Canada’s most well-known authors, Kenneth Oppel, has taken to YouTube to host virtual read-alouds. We don’t know about you, but having famous authors read to us for free is pretty much a dream come true!
2. New York Times bestselling author Ibi Zoboi and Yusef Abdus Salaam (one of the Central Park Five) announced their forthcoming YA novel Punching the Air.
A young adult novel told in verse about a young, Black, Muslim teen wrongly imprisoned, we have it on *very* good authority that this book is AMAZING and we couldn’t be more excited for it to hit shelves! Scheduled for release September 2020, you are definitely going to want to add this book to your TBR!
3. #HCCMarchMadness continues and you still have time to vote for your chance to win BIG!
An annual competition between 64 beloved books, only one will be crowned champion and it’s up to readers to decide! Vote now for your chance to win all 64 books in the running and scoop up some amazing savings on ebooks!
