It’s been a long week, Savvy Readers. Between working from home and practicing social distancing, it’s next to impossible to even remember what day of the week it is! Despite store, event, and festival closures, however, the book world continues to churn along, and we’ve rounded up everything you need to know from this past week!

1. Come hang out with us – Harper Hangouts, that is!

To keep us entertained throughout the week, HarperCollins authors jump on the Sprout, Killer Crime Club, and our very own Savvy Reader Facebook groups to talk about their books in whatever way they see fit! So far, we’ve already seen a tour of her personal collection by Victoria James, a cooking demonstration with Alka Joshi, and a reading from Mallory Tater! Kate Elizabeth Russell is stepping up to the plate tonight. Make sure you keep an eye on our Facebook and Twitter pages to see who’s coming next week!

2. FOLD – Festival of Literary Diversity – sets the bar once again

Unfortunately, due to the rapid spread of COVID-19, the majority of book events across the next few months have had to be canceled. Always on the cutting edge of the literary world, Jael Richardson and her team decided to migrate the festival to the digital world instead of canceling the entire thing outright. Read more about the details here!

3. CBC reveals the cover of Thomas King’s new novel!

Thomas King, the beloved and acclaimed author of The Inconvenient Indian and The Back of the Turtle, is returning to literary fiction with Indians on Vacation, and CBC Books has just revealed the book’s stunning cover! As if that’s not enough, they’ve also included an excerpt from the novel on their site which you can read now! Click here for more details. (Psssssst. I was lucky enough to read an early draft of this, and I think it might be his best novel! It is hilarious and heartfelt and touching, and you do not want to miss it.)

4. HCC March Madness continues!

That’s all we have for you this week, Savvy Readers. What are you reading to pass the time while your practice social distancing? Let us know in the comments or on Twitter @SavvyReader, and be sure to stay tuned for our next lineup of Harper Hangouts digital events!

Stay safe, wash your hands, and read good books.
