My Book Pledge Featured Read: The One and Only Bob

Happy Monday, Savvy Readers! Though the temperatures are a little cooler than last week, the sun is out here in Ontario and it is a beautiful day. Given everything that’s going on in the world right now, I think we can all use a little bit of positivity, and this week’s My Book Pledge Featured Read has buckets of positivity!

In 2012, Katherine Applegate released a little book called The One and Only Ivan. And, by “little” book, we mean a massively bestselling, Newbery Medal-winning, beloved-the-world-over children’s book. Having spent 27 years behind the glass walls of his enclosure in a shopping mall, Ivan has grown accustomed to humans watching him. He hardly ever thinks about his life in the jungle. Instead, Ivan occupies himself with television, his friends Stella and Bob, and painting. But when he meets Ruby, a baby elephant taken from the wild, he is forced to see their home, and his art, through new eyes. The One and Only Ivan possessed a rare blend of humor and poignancy that made it’s unforgettable first-person narration of a story of friendship, and, and hope an instant classic.

Now, nearly 8 years later, Ivan and Friends are back for another tale! Returning to the unforgettable world of The One and Only IvanThe One and Only Bob follows Ivan’s d-dog-friend Bob as they find themselves in another adventure of epic proportions! Bob sets out on a dangerous journey in search of his long-lost sister with the help of his two best friends, Ivan and Ruby. As a hurricane approaches and time is running out, Bob finds courage he never knew he had and learns the true meaning of friendship and family.

The great news doesn’t stop there though, Savvy Readers! In case you missed it, the world of Ivan, Bob and Friends is going to be making the jump to the silver screen later this year! With a star-studded voice cast that includes the likes of Angelina Jolie, Bryan Cranston, Sam Rockwell, Helen Mirren, and Danny DeVito, The One and Only Ivan is sure to be a resounding success.

There you have it, Savvy Readers. If you, like us, are in need of a touching, heartwarming story, The One and Only Bob should be the one you pick up.

Happy reading,

Jesse
