Happy Monday, Savvy Readers! As the weather gets colder, why not pile on the chills with a gripping thriller? We have the perfect book candidate: Confessions on the 7:45 by master of suspense Lisa Unger.
Confessions on the 7:45 is about a chance encounter that unravels a stunning web of lies and deceit. The story starts when Selena Murphy is commuting home from her job in the city when the train stalls out on the tracks. She strikes up a conversation with a beautiful stranger, Martha, in the next seat, and their connection is fast and easy. Martha ends up confessing to an affair with her boss and Selena admits she thinks her husband is having an affair with the nanny. The women then part ways, presumably never to meet again.
“Be careful to whom you tell your darkest secrets…” the cover warns because suddenly, Selena’s nanny disappears. As her once perfect life upends itself, she starts to wonder, who was Martha really? If that isn’t an intriguing premise, I don’t know what is.
What sets this thriller apart is a strong but flawed female lead who develops as the plot thickens. You’ll be impressed with some of the choices she makes when confronted with impossible problems. All the characters seem to have both good and bad inside them. The book will make you consider whether a binary of good and evil exists at all.
