My Book Pledge Featured Read: Pretty Little Wife

Well, Savvy Readers, 2020 is over (for better or for worse, I suppose) and that means it’s time for a new My Book Pledge! As you know, we really like to kick the reading year off with a huge book, and this week’s chilling thriller is certainly no exception to that rule!

I want to get this out of the way right from the jump: Pretty Little Wife by Darby Kane might have the best tagline I’ve seen on a thriller in quite some time. There’s more than one way to end a marriage. I love it! And the central question the novel poses – shouldn’t a dead husband stay dead? – is domestic thriller to the core! Let’s get into the plot, shall we?

Lila Ridgefield lives in an idyllic college town, but not everything is what it seems. Even Lila isn’t what she seems… Months ago, a student vanished and now, to complicate matters, Lila’s husband, Aaron, has also gone missing. At first, it appears that this is all some kind of tragic coincidence, but when they start digging into it a little, they realize that the student was actually the third of three unexplained disappearances over the last few years. Desperate to find any sort of connection between these cases (if one even exists), the police turn to ever possible avenue to investigate… without realizing that they might be stumbling over only part of the truth.

With the small town in an uproar, everyone is worried about the whereabouts of their beloved high school teacher. Everyone except Lila, his wife. She’s definitely confused about her missing husband but only because she was the last person to see his body, and now it’s gone…

Want to start your reading year off with a bang? Then be sure to pick up a copy of Darby Kane‘s Pretty Little Wife – the first My Book Pledge Featured Read of 2021! – today! And, if you haven’t already, be sure to sign up for this year’s My Book Pledge!

Happy reading,

Jesse
